The Golden Nugget Casino in Las Vegas has been up
and down in its lifetime, passing from owner to owner, yet never quite
solidifying itself as one of top casino resorts in Las Vegas. However, that day
may soon come for the Golden Nugget Casino if local real estate investor,
Jeffrey Fine, is approved for the licenses he would need to run not only the
Golden Nugget, but the Opera House Saloon and Casino as well.
Fine's applications to do so will be considered at
the Nevada Gaming Control Board's November hearing. Since Fine has already been
approved by state regulators, the chances he will be approved are very likely.
After applying for his casino gaming license in March of this year, Fine
incorporated Silver Nugget Holdings just two months later, which was the same
time that G.C. Holdings paid over $4 million for a 7.5 acre plot of undeveloped
property adjacent to Silver Nugget Casino. G.C. Holdings is owned by the
Las Vegas Sun publisher and primary owner of Green Valley Ranch Casino Resort,
Brian Greenspun, who happens to be Fine's uncle.
The connections seem to be in place, as does the
money. Just what Fine has up his sleeve for the Golden Nugget remains to
be seen, although there is speculation that Fine plans to completely renovate
and expand the casino and resort premises to three times its current size.
Speculation on plans - if any - that Fine has in store for the Opera House
Saloon and Casino are unknown. Fine is in Israel at the current time and has
declined to comment on his plans as of yet.
With all the hush-hush secrecy going on, some would
believe that the Golden Nugget may turn out like Station Casinos Red Rock
Resort, which Brian Greenspun also has a primary interest in. However, some
gambling Aficionado's like Bill Thompson from the University of Las Vegas would
say that Fine does not know what he has gotten himself into. The Golden Nugget
Casino is located in a location that is anything but ideal for a locals casino
like the Red Rock Resort. The surrounding area is quite poor, which for
locals who know the area, may be a strong deterrent. The prospects are exciting,
none the less, and lover's of Las Vegas and casino gambling are hoping the
Golden Nugget can rise like a Phoenix from the ashes.
