The Silverton Casino
and Hotel is gearing up for a $500 million expansion and renovation that will
begin this upcoming June, resulting in a new gaming lounge, casino expansion,
spa, pool, additional restaurants, concert amphitheater, convention space,
parking garage and a giant, 25-story hotel tower, featuring a total of 360 rooms
and sixty-three suites up to 3,000 square feet in size. The additional tower
will give Silverton twice as much room accommodations, not to mention a place on
the map of high-end Las Vegas locals casinos with the likes of Green Valley
Ranch and Red Rock Resort.
Already a strong
performing casino in the off-Strip market, Silverton has been very busy
investing a steady stream of improvements into their resort facilities. In 2006,
while nearby Interstate 15 was undergoing heavy construction (resulting in a
loss of business), Silverton used the downtime as an opportunity to begin their
upgrade process, resulting in $25 million in capital improvements and two more
dining destinations, giving them a total of five dining options at the present
moment. Management reports the design and planning process for the expansion has
been taking place for the last fifteen months.
Themed after a Klondike
lodge, yet integrating a hip and modern vibe, Silverton truly has what it takes
to become a Las Vegas destination resort. Already home to one of the most
beautiful and largest artificial reef aquariums in the world with 4,000 tropical
fish, string rays and sharks, Silverton does a wonderful job at integrating
nature with modern day pampering. Fish is certainly a theme at Silverton. In
addition to the 117,000 gallon main aquarium which features a free interactive
fish feeding show and mermaid show, there are two beautiful neon-lighted,
500-gallon jelly fish aquariums, an 18,000 gallon canyon rock formation with
over 100 Koi, and three freshwater aquariums in the Bass Pro Shop resembling
spring fed Nevada streams.
The expansion is
expected to be completed in nineteen months, and all construction is scheduled
to be finished in 2009. In addition to the 360 new rooms, which Silverton's
President, Craig Cavileer, says will be "as nice as anything on the Strip", all
existing rooms will receive a renovation in the next twelve months. The casino
expansion will add on another 30,000 square feet of gambling space, a 25,000
square feet restaurant, a $15 million spa and an 1,800 space parking garage.
