Several online gamblers are upset with how the
Norwegian based online gaming operator, PlaySafe Holding AS, handled the recent
changes made at Breakaway, Connect2 and Sci-Fi online casinos. Without even
notifying players in advance of the changes, the casinos transferred U.S. based
player accounts to another casino using an entirely different software platform.
While these activities are not unheard of, and in this particular situation were
securely and efficiently executed, nonetheless, the way in which it was handled
was anything but professional and considerate of player rights.
The reason being for the transfer was due to Play
Safe Holding's decision to cease accepting bets from U.S. players (obviously as
a result of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act). PlaySafe Holding AS
and all the online casinos in question certainly carry a good reputation and the
proper credentials. All of the casinos are powered by Real Time Gaming and hold
licensing through the Netherlands, Antilles. Also, the transfer was made to a
Rival Gaming Software powered site - Pantasia. Although a relatively new gaming
company, Rival is widely considered one of the top new software developers in
the industry.
What is irking players, however, is that they were
neither forewarned nor given any say in the matter. Despite the credentials of
Pantasia, the fact that players knew nothing about this online casino, and were
abruptly informed that accounts in their name were now being held with them, is
understandably disconcerting. Perhaps there was a payoff deal in the transfer,
or PlaySafe did not want to deal with the hassle of paying out U.S. account
holders. Perhaps, PlaySafe thought they were doing their players a favor.
Whatever the case, PlaySafe should consider forewarning their players next time.
It is unclear whether existing funds in player
accounts was transferred, although this appears to be the case. A spokesperson
for Rival Gaming software said they fully understand the unease of players, but
that there is no need to be overly concerned. All account information is being
securely stored on Rival Gaming servers while no financial details, including
credit card numbers, bank accounts and third-party eWallet accounts were
included in the transfer.
