The debate is still on regarding where the lone
super casino will be placed in the UK, and Scotland is doing all it can to
accommodate gaming and culture officials in helping to determine that they are
indeed the place where a new super casino will most thrive. Even the eight
large casinos and eight smaller, gambling venues are on the wish-list for
Scotland, who has decided to bid for the licenses via a number of councils
representing Scottish communities.
However, just like in any large population, there
has been some dissidence as to whether the new horde of casinos will benefit the
economy or just end up causing more problems and setbacks than before. The
usual ailments and disorders of problem gambling have been brought up as
concerns of these folks, in addition to a growing concern that rather than
stimulate the economy, the casinos will take money away from existing
businesses.
Despite the opposition, the support for casinos is
overwhelming. Council leaders agree that bringing the super casino to
Scotland would help to regenerate the economy - something desperately needed in
many parts. This is precisely what the appointed officials will be gauging
when determining their final selections of where the casinos will reside.
Not only will the area have to be in some need for economic regeneration, it
will have to be able to initially support and maintain strong business at the
casino.
While the greatest competition amongst the many
different regions in the UK will be for the super casino, depending on how well
that casino fares, there may be allowance at a later date for more Las Vegas
style casinos. Some gamblers may remember the original draft of the UK
Gambling Bill called for at least eight super casinos, which was later cut back
at the Culture Secretary's urging.
