The rumors that the famed Broadway musical, "The
Producers" might be coming to Las Vegas have proven to be true. Thanks to
a confirmation by Paris Las Vegas entertainment planners, it is indeed true the
Caesars casino resort property is planning to bring a slightly scaled down
version of "The Producers" to their on-site theatre.
Paris Las Vegas, which is as French as you will
find Las Vegas, has always been committed to providing theatrical entertainment.
(They are currently showing the Tony Award winning "Rent" to sold-out
audiences). And now that it is coming time to offer visitors something
different, "The Producers" appeared to have the exact ingredients needed for
entertaining a Las Vegas audience.
The current Broadway running time of "The
Producers" is two hours long (plus an intermission), which is too long of a
duration for typical entertainment venues on The Strip. In Las Vegas -
where everything is about getting people in the casinos - entertainment is
usually kept short and sweet - and "The Producers" will be no different.
Susan Stroman - the Broadway director of the original version - is reportedly
working on a revision of the script with Mel Brooks himself to get the show cut
down to a Las Vegas tolerable ninety minutes.
And while there was no confirmation whether Mathew
Broderick and Nathan Lane were in on the collaboration as well, Las Vegas
visitors would be very hard pressed to see Lane or Broderick in the Paris Las
Vegas Casino Theatre. However, just as Harvey Firestein made a debut at
The Luxor Casino in "Hairspray", it would not be entirely impossible to catch
the famous actors in a special engagement or encore showing showing of sorts.
